Our determined, courageous beautiful mother Dora Torres ( Lucero) sadly passed away on July 31, 2025, at the age of 83 years old. Dora loved her life, her children/grandchildren/great grandchildren, family/friends and “her man.” Dora and Floyd Torres were married for 54 wonderful years. They first met in elementary school, and it’s fair to say they didn’t exactly hit it off right away. She was a daddy’s girl and wasn’t immediately taken with Floyd’s escapades — but fate intervened. Dora attended Sacred Heart Catholic School; Floyd did not attend the same school, but being in the same neighborhood their paths would continue to cross through Washington Junior and Albuquerque High School. Through happenstance they reconnected and eventually married following Floyd’s graduation from USMC Camp Pendleton, CA. After serving our country in the military, they would become part of the City of Albuquerque Fire Department. Dora embraced being a supporting spouse and mother throughout Floyd’s careers. She worked full-time at home supporting the family until Floyd’s retirement. It was then her turn. She worked multiple jobs, but nothing gave her more satisfaction than helping her older daughter, Julie Torres launch and operate a successful business; Julia’s Cafe. People would come from all over the world to visit with “Mama Torres” at Julia’s Cafe. Dora loved experiencing new adventures with her husband, daughters and extended family. She learned and loved to hunt, fish, camp, boat and garden. People would describe her as being most proud of “her three girls”. From birth Julie Torres, Suzanna Ausborn(aka Sissy) and Denise Lucero were the reason she got up in the morning. She was the confidante, counselor, friend and role model for each of the girls. It was not unusual for hourly phone calls to check in, visit, laugh, cry or solve all the problems of the world with one another. Dora was always the person that coordinated family get-togethers, and started many traditions, which continue today. Piñon picking, tubing in the mountains, picnics at the park or mountains, birthday parties/weddings, Christmas tree cutting parties; everything was a celebration. Her brother and sisters, cousins, nieces/nephews, and extended family will always remember her infectious laugh, beautiful smile, and loving devotion. She is survived by her daughters Julie Torres, Suzanna Ausborn, Denise Lucero (Jose),sisters Patsy Baldonado (Norbert), Rita Chavez and Susana Orquiz Lucero (Noel) and her Sister-in-law Theresa Lucero. She has been blessed with three grandchildren: Mitchell & Summer Maloy, Alexander Lucero, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd M. Torres, her mother, Odelia Trujillo, her brother, LeeRoy Lucero, her son-in-law, Major Jeffrey O. Ausborn, and her nephew, Daniel Baldonado.Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 8, 2025 at 9:00am at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church 9502 4th St, Albuquerque, NM.
