Dorothy Lou Gilbert

Dorothy Lou Gilbert, affectionately known as Dottye, passed away on May 16, 2025, in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, at the age of 70. She was born on June 8, 1954, in Whitesville, Kentucky, to Edythe Louise Berry and Orion Bellamy Midkiff.

Dottye's education was marked by determination and a passion for beauty. She graduated from Daviess County High School in 1972 before earning her Cosmetology License at Owensboro Community and Technical College in 1974. This educational journey laid the foundation for a fulfilling career in cosmetology, where she touched the lives of many through her skilled hands and vibrant personality.

In her personal life, Dottye celebrated a beautiful marriage with Robert Eugene Gilbert Jr., with whom she shared 44 wonderful years. Together, they built a loving family that included their daughters, Amanda Garcia (married to Jerry), Angela Reynolds and fiancé, Christopher Hardy, and Jennifer Gilbert, as well as their son, John C. Gilbert. Dottye took immense joy in her role as a grandmother to her cherished grandchildren, Porter Reynolds, Gabrid Reynolds, Ella Reynolds, Willow Garcia, and William Little. She was also a devoted puppy parent to Kit Kat, who brought her much happiness.

Dottye was known for her fun-loving spirit and her ability to bring joy to those around her. With a knack for humor, she often made those she encountered smile with her jokes and goofy remarks. Her playful nature was a testament to her vibrant personality, and she will be remembered for the light she brought into the lives of others. She enjoyed reading, crafting and being surrounded by her grandchildren.

The community and family will gather to honor her life at a Funeral Service scheduled for June 9, 2025, at 11:00 AM, which will be held at Daniels Family Funeral Services – Southern Chapel, located at 2400 Southern Blvd, Rio Rancho, NM 87124.

Dottye Lou Gilbert leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and devotion to family. She will be deeply missed by her husband, children, and grandchildren, as well as everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
