Doug Harvey Worman passed away on May 21, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Known affectionately in his community as “Wood Doug,” Doug was a gifted builder whose carpentry skills enriched the lives of many. He built homes, strengthened his community through his craft, and spent many proud years creating sets for New Mexico’s film industry as a member of Local 480 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE).

Doug spent his early years in Illinois before making his way to New Mexico. He studied at the University of New Mexico and later explored the beauty of the Land of Enchantment, eventually finding his home in Cerrillos, near the treasured community of Madrid. It was there that he met the love of his life, Rebecca Abel, with whom he shared 37 years.

Doug will be remembered as a kind and caring soul who lived life on his own terms, never wavering in his values despite life’s hardships and challenges.

He is survived by his beloved Rebecca Abel; her son, Jeremy Blaugh; his niece, Alyssa Madden, and her husband, Jade; his grand-niece, Bronwyn Madden; his sister, Jan Schroeder; and Jan’s children, nephews Eric, Bryan, and Marc, and niece Danielle.

A memorial to celebrate Doug’s life is being planned, and details will be shared at a later date.
