Douglas Lee Sturdivant

July 11, 1955 — April 3, 2023

Albuquerque

Douglas Lee Sturdivant was 67 years old when he passed away on April 4, 2023. He was a life-long resident of Albuquerque, NM and graduated from Valley High School in 1973. He was preceded in death by his mother Mildred Ruth Sturdivant, his father Lonnie Dee Sturdivant, and his beloved cat of 18 years, Sashua. Family members include his sister Deborah Bogosian and her husband H. Harry Bogosian. His nephew and nieces, Paul Floyd and wife Jennifer and children Hunter and Hailey; Kim Sunderland and husband Gary and children Annabella, McKayla, and Evaleen; and Gail Pace and husband Ronnie and children Alexander and Dakota.

Doug was very creative. He worked several years with a company that made jewelry which he loved doing. He also began carving and made some beautiful walking sticks. He also loved riding his motorcycle and became a member of the Patriot Guard, a group of motorcyclists who support and honor fallen heroes of the military. While Doug did not serve in the military, being part of this group gave him joy to be able to be part of a group who had served.

Prior to retiring, Doug worked from 2007 – 2022 for the security division of Central New Mexico Community College. He enjoyed the opportunity to interact with the students, staff, and teachers at the college. He was very good at diffusing difficult situations between people.

Doug loved animals so we ask that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Watermelon Mountain Ranch (www.wmranch.org) in his honor.
