Dr B. Robert Gonzales
03-16-34 ~ 11-11-11 A Professor of Special Education from 1976-97 at the University of Northern Colorado, he passed way this past Veterans Day at the Spanish Peaks Hospital/VA Nursing Home in Walsenburg, CO. Born in Albuquerque, NM - Bob attended St. Mary��?�s High School and graduated from University of New Mexico. He received his graduate degrees from Gallaudet University and the University of Tennessee. Preceding UNC he taught at University of Massachusetts and the University of Northern Florida. His life touched many people from his first post graduate job working with children at the New Mexico School for the Deaf and Blind, many other state institutions throughout his life, working with graduate students from all over the country and international trips evaluating Special Education programs in South America and Taiwan. From friends starting in elementary school, throughout his work in his field of education and his years at UNC, people will miss him. While serving in the US Army Bob was stationed in El Paso, TX and Chicago, Il. He is preceded in death by his mother Mela L. in (1990), his brother John I (1989) and nephew Bobby earlier this year. He is survived by his wife Sandy of Albuquerque, her daughters Kelly and Karrie; first wife Colette and their children John R., William, Clarisse, Mark - all of Colorado, 16 grandchildren; a niece Antoinette of Chicago, Il and nephew Chuck of Brooklyn, NY.
Bob followed his desire and returned to NM when he retired and wished to be buried at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. Rosary to be held at Daniels Funeral Services, 7601 Wyoming NE, ABQ, NM, Sunday, Nov 20 2PM.
Interment service at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM on Monday, November 21 at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to sent to either the Colorado State VA Nursing Home (c/o CSVANH 23500 U.S. Highway 160, Walsenburg, CO 81089) or the New Mexico NMVAHCS - contact the Voluntary Service office at 505-256-2771.
