Effie Blackshear

Effie Blackshear, age 88, passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at her home in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.  She was born February 20, 1935, to Armando De La Garza and Effie Cressman De La Garza, in Laredo, Texas.  She was a graduate of Martin High School in Laredo, Texas, Class of 1953. She was a loyal and dedicated employee at Time Warner Communications for over 20 years. She had a green thumb and loved caring for her plants inside and outside. Effie had a talent for Interior Decorating. She enjoyed playing Bingo, working crossword puzzles while eating breakfast, playing Poker and Chinazo cards with her friends and family, and watching Jeopardy Monday through Saturday evenings. She will be remembered for her radiant smile, laughter and her sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Armando and Effie De La Garza; son, Randy Blackshear; and sister, Margie De La Garza.

Effie is survived by her daughter, Sandy Sanchez; son and daughter-in-law, Rodrigo and Sandra Sanchez; grandchildren, Lee Ann Duckett, Keelyn "Kiki" Coulson Blackshear, Kristen Reyes, and James Martin; great-grandchildren, Ace Rico and Kain Rico; sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Hector Hinojosa, sister and brother-in-law, Nina De La Garza and Julio Lopez; and very special friends, Adelina Guzman, Isaac Guerra, Yolanda Trevino and numerous other friends and relatives; pet cat, Kitty (deceased) and beloved dog, Scout (deceased), and pet dog, Mimi.

Mass will be celebrated at 10:00AM, Thursday, May 25, 2023, San Ysidro Catholic Church, 5015 Corrales Rd., Corrales, NM 87048.

The family would like to give their utmost gratitude to the entire Staff at Hospice de la Luz, for the excellent care, attention and service they provided to Effie, and a special thanks to her physician, Dr. Roberto Ortega, Nurse Christine and Nurse Sarah.
