Eiko Williamson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025, at the age of 84.
Born on Miyakojima Island, Japan, on March 10, 1941, Eiko moved to the United States in 1963 and became a proud U.S. citizen in November 1973. She made her home and built a beautiful life in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where her deep kindness, radiant spirit, and loving nature touched all who knew her.
Eiko was the devoted wife of William R. Williamson, and the cherished mother of Barbara Jeanne Milani and her husband William J. Milani, and Steven Alexander Williamson. She was the proud and playful grandmother of Elena Alexandra Sakura (daughter of Steven Williamson), Alexander Seigiro Williamson and Hana Julia Milani. Her love extended to her wider family: sisters Matsue Matthiesen and her son Joseph Richardson; and Michiko Wolf, her husband James Wolf and her daughters Miki Haverlock, her husband Todd Haverlock, and their son Samuel; Jimmie Wolf and her husband Brad Altman; son Thomas Wolf; Barbara Lecrone and her husband Alex, and their daughters Jessica, Jazmin, and Mya.
A joyful nurturer, Eiko delighted in doting on her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandneices, and grandnephew—always ready to go on a “secret lunch” or a mission to track down a coveted Happy Meal toy. When they were babies, she’d peel every grape just to make snack time special. Her home was a place of lush green beauty, with hand-picked large rocks for her garden and rescued turtles she lovingly cared for.
Eiko proudly shared her culture as a member of the New Mexico Okinawa Association dance troupe and the Japanese American Citizens League – New Mexico Chapter for over 30 years. She also enjoyed a decade of spirited bowling. She loved bright colors—especially yellow, red, and purple—and favored orchids, large spider mums, and Christmas poinsettias.
A private family service has already been held. A public gathering in tribute to Eiko’s life and legacy will take place on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at the Japanese American Citizens League – New Mexico Chapter’s Cultural Center from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, located at 1501 San Pedro Drive NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eiko’s memory to the Japanese American Citizens League – New Mexico Chapter, a cause she supported with great passion and pride.
Eiko will be remembered for her boundless love, unwavering generosity, and the joyful light she brought to every life she touched.
