Elizabeth "Liz" Rene Featheringham

May 20, 1958 — July 4, 2020

Elizabeth (Liz) Rene Featheringham, 62, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away July 4th, 2020, after a short illness. She was born in Massillon Ohio to parents Ray and Barbara (Sue) Featheringham. Elizabeth graduated in 1976 from James B. Conant High School in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, and attended DePaul University in Chicago, where she majored in Theater.

Known for her exquisite beauty and style in her youth, Elizabeth maintained her sense of humor and charm throughout her life. As a young woman she was employed as a cosmetics consultant for Elizabeth Arden and worked for various high-end Chicago department stores. Her later career included regional management for Dress Barn and other well-known companies. Elizabeth enjoyed travel abroad and relocated several times within the United States, including New Jersey, Idaho and finally New Mexico.

Elizabeth met her greatest challenge in 2010 when complications from spinal meningitis left her paralyzed. For ten years as a paraplegic, she fought heroically against her increasingly fragile health. She endured many surgeries and complications and bore it all with dignity and grace. Though often in pain or discomfort, she rarely complained, and was unfailingly upbeat and positive. Her generosity was legendary as was her love for Pam, her wife and soulmate, whom she married in 2015. Elizabeth was lovely and kind; a lady in the truest sense of the word, and will be sorely missed by her family, friends and caregivers.

Elizabeth is survived by her beloved wife Pam Makowski; her sister Teresa Miller (Mark); nephews Max Miller (Megan and son Luke), Matthew Miller (Beatriz) and Adam Miller (Allison); her in-laws Sharon Makowski (Debbie Biehl) and Michael Makowski (Janet); and her lifelong friend, Linda Larson. She was much beloved by her caregivers Gil Vigil, Theresa Covarrubias (Jorge), Sylvia Salazar and Sommer Covarrubias (Enrique). Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents Ray and Barbara (Sue) Featheringham.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. To honor Elizabeth and her special love for animals, donations can be made in her name to the Friends of Petraits Animal Rescue in Chicago.  http://paypal.me/FriendsofPetraits
