Elizabeth “Betsy” Mahoney, age 77, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2026, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in La Jolla, California, Betsy was the daughter of the late Robert Gordon and Joan Worrall. She spent her life dedicated to helping others as a passionate health professional. Outside of her career, she was immensely creative and a long-time member of the church Bell Choir. She was incredibly talented at all kinds of crafts, from knitting and crocheting to scrapbooking and papercrafts.
Above all, Betsy absolutely loved Christmas and treasured the time she spent with her family. Her home was always filled with the warmth and joy of the holiday season, beautifully crafted projects, and the laughter of her grandchildren. These special moments brought her great happiness and created lasting memories for those she loved.
Betsy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Gordon and Joan Worrall; her sister, Virginia Gordon; her brother-in-law, Pete Conklin; and her nephew, Paul Conklin.
Her memory will live on through her devoted husband, Tim Mahoney; her three children, Dianne Carthel and her husband, Clint, Jason Schubert, and Julie Schubert; and her five cherished grandchildren, Zachary Carthel, Ariana Constance, Tyler Carthel, Kayci Reeves, and Sage Magistro. She is also survived by her loving sister, Susan Conklin; her niece, Jamie Dalton; her great-nieces, Jenny and Kayla; her great-nephew, Chris; and many dear friends and colleagues.
A celebration of Betsy’s life will be held on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at All Saints Lutheran, located at 4800 All Saints Road NW, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87120.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Betsy’s name to Robert Wertheim Hospice House in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Donations may be made online at phs.org/foundation.
Betsy will be remembered for her caring heart, creative spirit, love of Christmas, and the joy she brought to her family and everyone whose life she touched.
