Our beloved mother, Emily R. Harding, went home to the Lord on January 26, 2023, at the age of 91. Emily was born March 1,1931 in Fort Defiance, Ariz.  Emily is survived by her daughters Janet L. Ashley of Albuquerque, N.M., Earleen J. Yazzie of Coyote Canyon Brimhall, N.M., Deniece M. Housteen Leal of Gallup, N.M. and Desiree Anderson of Albuquerque, N.M as well as her brothers Jack E. Harding living in the Hopi reservation and William K Begay of Ganado, AZ. She is survived by 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren as well as 5 great-great grandchildren.

In her midlife years, Emily moved back to New Mexico in the eighties for new beginnings as sole parent to raise daughter, Desiree. Emily was strong advocate for her Christian faith and spiritual values in her life often in tune with the feelings of others and having the intuitions to helping or guiding her family and others with strong advice. Emily was highly creative and imaginative to ways in earning extra income at flea markets to sell Avon, her baked goods, or other items. Emily was a caring, open minded, frank, and humorous person and loved by friends and family. Emily was last employed at Earl’s Restaurant in Gallup, N.M., retired, and moved to Albuquerque, N.M.

Emily was preceded in death by her parents Ruth L. Harding of Ganado, Ariz. And Marshall Begay, Sr. of Ft. Defiance, Arizona and a sister Renee L. Rodriguez of Gallup, N.M. She was, also, preceded in death by her first ex-husband Dennie Housteen of Tselani Springs, Arizona (father of Janet, Earleen and Deniece); preceded in death by granddaughters Denneilia F. Yazzie Toribio, Arlene L. Yazzie, Hermelia J. Yazzie, and by a great-grandson William D. Yazzie and nephew Anthony Rodriguez.
