Epifania Bonifacia Chavez

March 9, 1933 — September 20, 2025

Epi was born to Juan L. and Gregorita Baca in Magdelena, New Mexico.

The Baca family moved to Albuquerque where Epi attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, later attending Loretto Academy in Santa Fe. Finishing her education at St. Vincent Academy in Albuquerque.


After graduation, Epi worked at an optometrist's office, Dr. Beber, in downtown Albuquerque. She knew of Laurence, but officially met him at the Santa Fe Fiestas, married November 24, 1955, and had four children.


Epi raised the family, while dedicating innumerable hours of service to the community and to St. Bernadette Catholic Church. She was President of the Rosary Altar Society and held many committee chairmanships. She took great pride in the meticulous care of the altar linens, which were her pride and joy.


She briefly worked at various school cafeterias and enjoyed her tenure at Montgomery Ward.


She had a deep passion for travel and treasured the many trips she took with Laurence, family and friends. She often fondly recalled vacations, and adventures shared with Mr. and Mrs. I. Pohl, Mr. and Mrs. A. Cordoba and her cousin CeCe Montoya. She cherished any opportunity to dance with her husband.


Epi is preceded in death by husband, Laurence; grandchildren Dominic Romero, Sharee Chavez; and cousins, Cecelia Montoya, Paul Armijo from Magdelena.


She is survived by her children: Son Laurence Chavez and wife Pat; daughters Nanette Romero and husband Gilbert; Mona Ladner and husband Mark; Tish Sedillo and Husband Matthew. Grandchildren, Monique Y. Romero, Brittania Chavez, Adam Ladner, Adriene Ladner, Matthew J. Sedillo and four great grandchildren and numerous extended family


She will be remembered for her abundant grace, love and acceptance of all as well as her humor and childlike laughter, which always brought a smile to everyone.


Epi passed away peacefully at home and will be missed dearly by all.


Funeral services scheduled Monday October 13, 2025, 9:30 Rosary with funeral Mass and reception to follow at The Shrine of St. Bernadette. 11509 Indian School Rd. N.E. 87112
