Eric Romero

September 5, 1975 — February 19, 2024

On Monday, February 19, 2024, Eric Romero was taken too soon from this earth to join all his friends and family who have gone before him to enter eternal paradise.

Eric was born on September 5, 1975 to Ricky and Cockett Romero. He was proceeded in death by his beloved paternal grandmother, Felicitas Romero, and grandfather, Anthony “Mercy” Romero (maternal grandfather of his wife).

Eric left behind a loving wife, Xavia Romero; 2 beautiful daughters, Tazia Romero & Mikayla Romero (Joseph Rivera); an amazing son, Derek Romero (Jade Martinez); his parents, Ricky and Cockett Romero; a sister, Shamay Romero (Freddy); 3 nieces, Laurissa (Nizard), Felicitiy (Coco), & Leighla Bertoldo; maternal grandmother, Fina Montoya; father and mother in law, Dan and Misie Olivas; sister in law, Ariela Olivas; along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Eric attended and graduated Las Cruces High School in 1994, where he was a standout athlete earning the honors of being an undefeated State Champion Wrestler, MVP in baseball, and Pepsi Athlete of the year. That same year, he welcomed his first child, Tazia, on March 18th and later married his high school sweetheart, Xavia Romero, on October 8th.

Eric was an avid enthusiast of any type of sporting competition. He excelled at anything and everything he did. He loved watching the Tour De France and cheering on his 49ers. He loved to golf with his kids, play at the casino, go camping, and most of all hunt. Eric said his favorite moments were always up in the mountains.  When Eric’s son, Derek, turned 3 years old, he started up a baseball team to coach him which he named “The Redcaps” in honor of his childhood team. Before long, this became a baseball club with 3 different age divisions because he loved to coach and mentor kids. For the past 26 years, he has also remained a part of the wrestling community. He currently was a part of the NM Junior Wrestling Association where he served as a Head Referee, Mentor and Assigner. In addition, he was so happy and proud to be able guide and teach his daughter, Mikayla, how to officiate.

Eric was also a silent donor to Tunnel 2 Towers, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and St Jude’s Childrens Hospital. There were no boundaries to his generosity and assistance. Anyone that had the pleasure of knowing him knew that regardless of any situation, they could count on him.

He was the best husband, father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, Nino & friend that anyone could ever ask for. He made a huge impact on the community and on the lives of those who knew and loved him.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Tortugas NM -3600 Parroquia St. A rosary will be recited at 1pm with a mass to follow at 1:30pm.
