Erminia McKenna

Albuquerque

Known to her friends as Min or Minnie, Erminia McKenna died peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, December 1, 2022.  She was 99.

Minnie was born in Carlsbad, NM on October 2, 1923. Predeceased by her parents Francisco Pompa and Clara Zuniga Pompa, her beloved husband, Boyd “Mac” McKenna, her son, James “Jim” McKenna; and her siblings: Adelida Gomez, Tomasa Briones, Lucinda Patterson, Francisco Pompa, Magdelana Briones, Augustine Pompa, Consuelo Jaquez, Flavia Sloan, Daniel Pompa, Margarita Ward, and Gilbert Pompa.

Minnie is survived by her son, Randall “Randy” McKenna, and wife Dora, of El Paso, TX; daughter, Kathy Schreiber, and husband Charlie, of Fredericksburg, TX; daughter Cynthia McKenna, of Fredericksburg, VA.  She is also survived by 11 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great Grandchild. Minnie loved her family and friends.  

As a civil servant, Minnie worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as an Administrator.  She retired from civil service after 44 years. She was an avid gardener, making the desert bloom around her home.  Minnie loved to dance and was active in both square dancing and round dance groups in Albuquerque.  She was president of the Swingin’ Singles Square Dancers. A fan of jazz music, Minnie was active in the Rio Grande Jazz Society. Other hobbies included cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and more. She played an active role in the life of Brookdale where she lived.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 12, 2023 at 10:00am.
