Ernest Miranda Jr.
Ernest Miranda Jr., lovingly known as Ernie, peacefully passed away on May 20, 2026. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, uncle and brother. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his kind heart, and his gentle sense of humor, and the love he shared with his family and friends.
Ernie was born in Carrizozo, NM on July 1, 1950 to Ernest and Mary Miranda, both hardworking parents who dedicated their lives to providing for their family. Ernie was raised among many brothers and sisters, and he learned the importance of family, hard work and love at an early age.
Ernie was raised in Alamogordo, NM where he graduated high school. He proudly followed his dad’s footsteps by joining the U.S Navy. Serving his country brought him great pride and purpose, and he carried that sense of honor and dedication throughout his life.
Ernie married and became a proud father of two sons, Ernest Miranda III and Anthony Miranda. He worked hard to provide for them and to teach them the values of which he was raised.
Later in life, Ernie found the love of his life, Irene Black Romero. Together they shared more than 20 wonderful years of love, companionship and happiness. Through his marriage to Irene, he was blessed with many step children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved deeply. Nothing brought him greater joy than watching his family grow and spending time with them.
Ernie enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He cherished camping trips with his family, hunting with his brothers, golfing, tennis and ping pong where he was known for his skill and playful joy he took in beating everyone. He also took great pride in maintaining his property in Los Lunas, where he spent countless hours tending to the land and his animals.
One of Ernie’s greatest joys was becoming a grandpa. He was incredibly proud of all his grandchildren. Anthony Jr., Rikki, Vanessa, Johnnyjoe and wife Marissa, Vincent and wife Camille, Melissa and husband Joel, Jeffrey, Desiree and husband Iain, Sherise, Victor Jr. and wife Rachel, Latisha and husband Estevan, Charlene and husband JT, Jennifer and husband John, Stephanie and husband JJ, Benny Jr., and Andrew along with all of his great-grandchildren who brought endless happiness into his life.
Ernie was preceded in death by his loving parents, Ernest and Mary Miranda, his grandparents; Antonia and Candido Miranda, Ana Maria Moya, Gavinita and Santiago Mirabal, and nephew Adrian Telles.
