Esther Madrid Martinez

Esther (Madrid) Martinez, 61, of Kirtland passed away Friday, June 4, 2010 at her home. Esther was born November 27, 1948 in Chama the daughter of Jose Jubinal Madrid and Leonila Reynalda Martinez. She attended Chama High School and graduated in 1966. Esther met and married Henry Martinez in 1992 in Chama and they were married for 5 months. She moved to Kirtland in 1994 where she made her home with her family. Esther was employed with Rio Arriba County for 17 years as a payroll clerk. She enjoyed playing cards, listening to music and spending time with her family. Esther will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. Esther is survived by her brother Gene Madrid and Patsy of Chama; sister Agnes DeVargas and husband Danny of Kirtland; nephews Jerome Madrid and wife Bonnie of Santa Fe; Bruno Madrid and wife Lisa of Rio Rancho, Ross DeVargas and wife Kristin of Las Cruces, and Daniel DeVargas and wife Carrie of Socorro; nieces Gina Madrid of Rio Rancho and Clara DeVargas of Kirtland; great-nephews T.J. Madrid, Jordan Madrid, Ashton DeVargas and Peyton DeVargas; great-nieces Natasha Madrid, Sarah DeVargas, Catherine DeVargas, and Aydrianna Benally and many dear friends. Esther was preceded in death by her parents; spouse Henry Martinez, sister Maria Madrid and a niece Victoria DeVargas. Cremation will take place and Rosary services will be Monday, June 7, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at San Juan Catholic Center in Kirtland with Father Dan Kassis reciting. A second Rosary for Esther will be Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chama. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chama with Father Joel Bugas as celebrant.
