Gene Gallegos, a beloved patriarch passed away on March 25, 2024, at 77 years old. He was born on September 2, 1946, in his hometown of Albuquerque. He attended Albuquerque High School and UNM. After attending UNM, he served 4 years in the Army Security Agency, 2 years of which were served in Vietnam. Gene's passing has left a void that can never be filled for those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Retiring in 2001 from Quest as an Account Executive for 30 years, he was responsible for the New Mexico government State account. After retiring he enjoyed working at home and taking care of his “River Home” on the San Juan River at Navajo Dam. He loved to fish, hunt, golf and especially attend all UNM Lobo games. He enjoyed the tailgating.
On April 15th, 1968, during his tour of Vietnam on his R&R from the service he married his high school sweetheart Shirley Delwiche in Honolulu Hawaii and spent 56 wonderful years with a partnership built on mutual respect, unwavering support, and boundless love. Together they weathered life's storms and celebrated its joys side by side as one.
Gene's children Tina (Rick) and Sean Gallegos were blessed to have such an extraordinary father whose wisdom guided them through life's challenges while always encouraging them to reach for their dreams. His grandchildren—Johnna Mora (Daniel), Jordan Gallegos, and Mia Gallegos—were the light of his life; he took immense pride in watching them grow into remarkable individuals.
Beyond being an exceptional professional and loving family man, Gene was also known for his generosity towards others. He will be missed by so many people, especially his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-laws and the many nieces and nephews, along with many close friends, who some have said how they have many memories of growing up with him as their mentor.
Gene is survived by nephew Ray Marez (Terry), great nephew Edwin Samora (Chante) and great niece Rhea Smith (George). Gene was preceded in death by his Father Isadore Gallegos, Mother Margaret Gallegos, and sister Grace Marez.
As we mourn the loss of the best man in the world it is important to remember how much joy Gene brought into our lives. Rest In Peace Gene, your spirit will forever remain alive within us.
