Eva Jean Fomalont

July 1, 1941 — February 23, 2022

Our beloved mother, sister, Yia Yia (grandmother), great Yia Yia, aunt, cousin and friend, Eva Jean Fomalont was called to be with our Lord in the early morning hours on Wednesday February 23, 2022.

She is preceded in death by her parents William and Clara Manos, her brother George Jason Kontos, and her grandson Michael Dolz. Eva is survived by her daughters, Claire Foster, Lisa Dolz (Juan), Jacqueline Barner (James), her granddaughters Elena Dolz, Eva Jean Frias, Erica Dolz, Jessica Carleton (Zach), great grandson Gregory Carleton and many cousins and friends.

Eva was born in Newark, New Jersey on July 1, 1941. She was surrounded by a large loving Greek family that instilled strong values and love for her family’s Greek heritage. She graduated from Eastside High School in Newark, New Jersey. Eva attended Seton Hall and worked in New York City before marrying and starting her family.

Eva and her daughters moved to Socorro, New Mexico in 1977 where she worked at the Very Large Array.

Eva moved to Albuquerque in 1985 and established a career in the health insurance industry. In 2002, Eva rose to the esteemed position of President of the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU). She received the coveted “Harold R. Gordon Memorial Award” in 2009 recognizing her as NAHU’s Person of the Year. The New Mexico State Association of Health Underwriters named an award that is presented yearly in her name, the “Eva Jean Fomalont” Award in recognition of outstanding achievements. While working at Lovelace Health Plan as a Senior Account Manager, she received New Mexico Business Weekly’s “2011 Woman of Influence Award.” Eva served as Director of Be Well New Mexico from 2015-2017. The final years of her career were spent at Benefit Source as Vice President of Sales.

During Eva’s fifty five years as a Daughter of Penelope she held many positions at the local, district and national level. In 2017, Eva was elected to Grand President of the Daughters of Penelope. As Grand President Eva toured Greece where she met the Prime Minister of Greece and the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of the Greek Orthodox Church.

Eva loved St George Greek Orthodox Church. She was part of the Parish Council for twenty years and served as Parish Council President. Eva always looked forward to serving at the Grecian Festival where she welcomed everyone with a bright smile.

Eva’s favorite things in life were family, friends, entertaining, tennis, pool time with her family and dancing. She was involved in many philanthropic organizations such as the Daughters of Penelope, Philoptochos, Share Your Care Adult Day Services, Meals on Wheels, and the American Heart Association “Go Red for Women.”

Eva loved life and lead with all her heart. She was the epitome of grace, style and class. Her smile, laughter, and hugs, will be missed by everyone who knew her.
