Felipe Leopold "Polo" Montoya, age 86, passed away on June 22, 2026.
Polo was born on November 15, 1940, in the rural Bernalillo community of Santa Barbara, New Mexico, to Felipe Montoya and Teresita Montoya, née Gonzales.
He was a beloved father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend. Polo is survived by his son, Phillip; his daughter-in-law, Yvette; his grandchildren, Victoria, Lance, and Ryan; and his nephews, Ruben and Greg Garcia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Felipe and Teresita Montoya, and his sister, Virginia Garcia.
Polo worked for General Electric for more than 30 years as an inspector of aerospace jet engine parts. After retiring, he gave his time as a volunteer at The Storehouse in downtown Albuquerque, helping people in need.
Polo was known as a quiet and private man, but he was always there for family whenever they needed him. After being diagnosed with dementia, he lived with his son, where he was cared for and surrounded by family.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all those who knew him.
Service will be held on Thursday, July 02, 2026, at Carlisle Chapel at 10:30am. Burial at 12:30pm at Mt. Calvary Cemetery with a Reception to follow at Daniels Family Funeral Home (Carlisle Chapel).
