82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lemitar, NM on December 30, 1932 to  Pedro and Rumalda (Maestas) Chavez. Fermin was raised in Lemitar until he proudly joined the United States Army in 1953. After his honorably discharge in 1955, Fermin and the love of his life, Flora moved to Albuquerque. After retirement they returned to the family farm in Lemitar. Fermin enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to fish and hunt and he enjoyed riding horseback. Fermin always had a beautiful garden, he could make anything grow. He was the rock of his family and taught them all to never give up and to keep their faith in God. He was devoted to his family and loved them all so much. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and all of his brothers and sisters. Fermin is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Flora (Pargas)Chavez; his devoted children, Thelma Finn and husband, Michael; Johnny Chavez; and Ivan Chavez and wife, Patty; his grandchildren, Dain; Sara; Jim; Sandra; Tanya; Johnna; and Chad; and all of his great and great great  grandchildren. Fermin will also be greatly missed by all of his nieces, nephews, other loving family members and close friends. The Holy Rosary will be recited on Monday, April 13, 2015 at 8:30 am at La Sagrada Familia Church in Lemitar, NM, followed by a Communion Service which will begin at 9:00 am with Deacon Nick Keller as Officiant. Interment will take place in  the Lemitar Cemetery. Pallbearers are Johnny Chavez, Ivan Chavez, Dain Finn, Paul Chavez, Michael Valenzuela, Nathaniel Valenzuela, Anthony Torres Jr, Jerry Flores, Jesse Barger, and Brandon Dienlein. Honorary pallbearers are all of Fermin's grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions and donations may be given in Fermin's honor to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
