Frankie L. Smith

January 30, 1909 — August 22, 2010

Mrs. Frankie L. Smith, 101, passed peacefully from this earth surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 22nd at her home in Farmington, NM. She was born January 30th, 1909, in Neal, Kansas, to Bert and Sena Anderson. Frankie returns to the loving arms of her parents, her husband Francis “Pete” M. Smith, her beloved daughter Delores Goins, her sister Artie Bates, and her granddaughter Fran Parrick. She is at last reunited with and can now embrace the daughter and two sons she lost as infants. She is survived by her son in-law W.D. Goins, grandchildren Paula (Leo) Francisco, David Goins, Pennye Goins, and Linda Schexnayder. She also is survived by her 11 great grandchildren: Phillip Francisco, Matthew Francisco, Alex Francisco, Kelly Armenta, Duncan Goins, Baeley Derooy, Gettye Goins, Mitchell Goins, Leah Kessler, Justin Schexnayder and Alishia Schexnayder. Her 9 great- great grandchildren are: Ryley, Taylor, and PJ Francisco; Amia, Maliah, and Amar’e Goins; Kelsy and Ginger Armenta; and Hunter Richard. Frankie grew up a tomboy in Kansas, learning how to hunt and fish with her dad, sister, and several male cousins. Her first marriage to Tom Spurlin was blessed with her beloved daughter Delores. Frankie later married Pete Smith. During WWII, Frankie felt it was her patriotic duty to work in an airplane factory in Pennsylvania as a timekeeper. Afterwards, the couple traveled throughout the U.S. in a travel trailer following the natural gas pipelines that Pete helped to build. They ended up in Aztec, NM and decided to make New Mexico their home. After moving to Farmington, Frankie started working part time for Leona Coffey in Mrs. Coffey’s real estate office. Frankie soon earned her own real estate agent license. When Pete died in 1964, Frankie needed to support herself, and real estate became her full time career. She worked with several real estate brokers over the years, including her good friend Bob Browning for 16 years. Frankie continued to work for Betty Buffington at San Juan Realty well into her 90”s and was “forced” to retire only after a series of falls slowed her down. She lived her last years with her son in-law W.D. under the loving care of her granddaughter Pennye. Paul bearers will be Phillip, Matthew, Alex and Leo Francisco; Mitchell Goins, and Matthew Armenta.
