Frederick "Cane" Butler Jr.

Frederick “Cane” Butler, age 68, passed away at his home on Thursday, December 7, 2023, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  He was born August 8, 1955, in Greensboro, North Carolina to Frederick Butler and May Troy Wiseman Butler.  He was a graduate of Grimsley High School, Greensboro, NC. Frederick was an employee of the United States Department of Energy from 1995 until 2023.  He had the coldest left hand sky hook in basketball.  His greatest interest was Fashion!  He would have made a Ken Doll jealous.  He was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, May Troy Butler; father, Frederick Butler Sr; and many other relatives.

Frederick is survived by his son, Justin Butler of Albuquerque, NM; Justin’s mother, Kathy Crockett of Albuquerque; his girlfriend of more than 40 years, Carmen Sonia Moreno of Albuquerque, NM; step-daughter, Camille Crockett of Albuquerque, NM; step-daughter, Veronica Moreno of Albuquerque, NM; step-daughter, Monica Morales; grandchildren, Marcus Butler, Sofia Morales, Amalie Morales, Braulio Morales, Santiago Moreno, Mialina Moreno, Mateo Moreno, Isiah Tapia and Malachi Crockett.

Services will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2023, 11:00 AM, Phillips Chapel C.M.E., 1401 Edith Blvd. SE, Albuquerque, NM 87102.

Services will also be held Saturday, December 30, 2023, 1:00 PM, Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 High Point Rd, Greensboro, N.C. 27407.  Burial will follow this service.

Frederick to his son: 

I want you to believe deep in your heart, that you are capable of achieving anything you put your mind to.  That you will never lose, you either win or learn.  Just go forth and aim for the skies.  I can’t promise to be here for the rest of your life, but I can promise to love you for the rest of mine.    Love Dad
