BRASHER, Frieda Brasher, born November 9, 1919 in Fullerton, Pennsylvania, Frieda Magdalena Brasher was the daughter of Michael and Sophia Klimek. As a child, Mrs. Brasher was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Catasaugua, Pennsylvania and attended Fullerton Grade School and Whitehall High School, graduating in 1937. After high school, Mrs. Brasher took a position with the U.S.D.A. Farm Security Administration in Norristown, PA and there continued her studies in business administration. In 1940, she moved to Washington, D.C. to work with the Navy Department, serving as a secretary to Admiral Nimitz. She was present at President Roosevelt’s declaration of war against Japan. While in Washington, Mrs. Brasher met Clarence J. Brasher, whom she married on September 4, 1943. They were married 56 years and together they had nine children. Mrs. Brasher is survived by her seven sons, two daughters and numerous grand and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and four sisters. Music was a very important part of Mrs. Brasher’s life. Growing up, Mrs. Brasher studied piano and organ with her sister and accompanied numerous musicals, operettas, vocalists and instrumentalists. While in Washington, she studied the organ at the Catholic University of America. Upon moving to Albuquerque in 1948, she began a lifelong service as an organist for various churches, including St. Paul Lutheran Church, St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Faith Lutheran Church, St. Jude’s Catholic Church and Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, retiring in 2006. She was a board member of the American Guild of Organists and played for hundreds of weddings, funerals and other events. She taught piano for many years. Mrs. Brasher worked full time for many years as a bookkeeper for the Central United Methodist Church and as an executive assistant at Robertson & Sons Violin Shop, and in her spare time, she was a frequent volunteer for various organizations, including the Easter Seal Society, the Albuquerque Public Library and the Governor Bent Elementary School library.
