Gabriel Mercedes Vigil, age 27, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. Born on July 22, 1998, in Los Lunas, New Mexico, Gabriel was the cherished son of Josephine and Joseph Martinez. He was a proud graduate of Manzano High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Class of 2016. Following his passion for justice and community service, Gabriel embarked on a career in law enforcement, dedicating three years to the Albuquerque Police Department.

Gabriel’s life was marked by profound love and commitment. He married the love of his life, Chantel Hernandez, on October 5, 2023, and together they built a beautiful family. Gabriel is survived by his beloved wife, Chantel Vigil, residing in Edgewood, New Mexico, and their three wonderful children: son Walker Dean Vigil, daughter Amrielle Melody Vigil, and son Charlie Joseph Vigil, all of Edgewood. He was also deeply loved by his parents, Josephine and Joseph Martinez of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and his brothers, Urijah Martinez and Nicholas Martinez, both residents of Albuquerque. His life was further enriched by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents who hold his memory dear.

Gabriel’s passions extended beyond his professional and family life. He found joy in fishing, hunting, baseball, family game nights, and camping. Above all, Gabriel treasured his role as a devoted father, embracing every moment with his children.

His faith was a guiding light through his life, as reflected in his own words, “I am Gabriel, I stand in the presence of the Lord,” inspired by Luke 1:19.

A prayer service to honor Gabriel’s life will be held from 11:05 PM on April 3, 2026, until 12:05 AM on April 4, 2026, at Daniels Family Funeral Services - Sara Road Chapel, located at 4310 Sara Rd, Rio Rancho, New Mexico, 87124.

Gabriel Mercedes Vigil’s vibrant spirit, dedication, and love leave an enduring legacy among all who knew him. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
