IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Garold Leo (Gary)
Hohmann
October 6, 1936 – March 8, 2026
Rosary
Gary was hard-working and dedicated throughout his life. He spent many years working as an Electrical and Nuclear Engineer for Westinghouse. He began his professional life in Dubuque, IA after graduating from Loras Academy and The University of Iowa. His career took him and his family to many states including Illinois, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Maryland, Idaho and South Carolina. His work focused on the environmental cleanup and management of nuclear waste materials. His retirement years were spent in New Mexico at the insistence of his wife Cathy who loved their time spent in Los Alamos early in his career.
Gary was a devout Catholic and a Third Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. His faith guided him in supporting the church and participating in charitable and community focused projects. He is credited for leading countless fundraising efforts to benefit the Special Olympics and a neighborhood initiative to create several miles of a natural walking path that bears his name and is enjoyed by many to this day. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting with his boys and camping is a cherished family pastime. His love for sitting around a campfire while ‘playing’ guitar, singing and telling the story of ‘Herman’ was something he shared with his children, leaving a mark that will never fade. He passed his sense of humor on to all of his children and could make them laugh right up to the end.
He was preceded in death by his wife and eldest son. He is survived by many friends and family members who will miss him dearly.
A Rosary will be held at The Church of the Incarnation in Rio Rancho on March 29th, at 4:00.
A funeral service will be held at a later date in Iowa where he will be laid to rest next to Cathy near the church they were married in. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s or Special Olympics New Mexico, causes that were close to his heart.
We find comfort in knowing that Dad's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
