Gary Dean James, 42, of Farmington, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2010, in Farmington. He was born Feb. 26, 1968, in Cortez, Colo., to Bob and Lorraine Hunt James. He married Kelly Taylor of Farmington in Cortez on Sept. 4, 1994. Gary was a master mechanic, able to fix anything that came his way. He supported his family as an electrician but that was only a hobby. He loved "wrenchin'." Nothing, except his family, brought him greater joy and satisfaction than working on cars and motorcycles. If his life was summed up in one word it would be service. He was willing to lend a hand to anyone, anytime, usually with a fistful of hundred dollar bills. Cars were repaired without charge to those who couldn't pay. Gary was always generous, caring deeply about friends and family. He judged you by your character, not by your looks. His family was the most important part of his life. He was so proud of his beautiful Kelly and their two wonderful sons, Terry and Jacob. They were a loving close-knit family that enjoyed doing things together whether it was fixing cars, taking rides or going on vacations, usually to Albuquerque to the Flea Market or Hinkle's Family Fun Center. Gary loved the Fourth of July and put on spectacular displays for the whole neighborhood every year. He loved music and played the guitar, composing his own music and lyrics. He was the life of every party, with a quick wit and great sense of humor. He loved being part of a large family with his six brothers and one sister. His sister donated her kidney to Gary in 2008. He was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George James, Ben Hunt and Ula B. Stevens. He is survived by wife, Kelly; sons, Terry and Jacob; and his parents, all of Farmington; his six brothers, Robert (Kathy) of Hobbs, Nick (Glenda), Chris (Debbie), Eric (Ammy), Michael (Brandy) and Darin (Lea), all of the Farmington area; his sister, TiaLisa (John) Lente of Monterey Calif.; his grandmother, Betty James of Dolores, Colo.; and by numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends. Visitation with the family will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4400 College Blvd., in Farmington, followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. at the same location. Burial will be at Memory Gardens, 6917 E. Main St., in Farmington. Anyone wishing to join a motorcycle procession from the church to the cemetery is cordially invited to do so. Gary James, the man with a big heart has left a void in ours that cannot be filled. We loved him so! Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home
