Gary Truman Larsh

April 18, 1949 — December 3, 2025

Gary Truman Larsh, 76, of Bernalillo, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on December3,2025, with his wife at his side. Born on April 18,1949, in Denver, Colorado, Gary lived a life full of laughter, knowledge, and unwavering affection for his family and friends.

A proud graduate of the University of New Mexico, Gary earned both a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and a Master's in Public Administration. His career with State of New Mexico spanned many years and departments within HHS and HSD, where his intelligence, wit, and dedication earned him the respect of countless colleagues.

Gary married his best friend, Anelle Brown, with whom he shared a deep and lasting love. Together they raised their son, Sean Shibley Brown, whom Gary adored. His greatest joy came with the arrival of his grandson, Zeke Shibley Brown. Gary's world revolved around Zeke-he loved to recount stories of Zeke's talent for wrestling, robotics, and his remarkable ability to speak Spanish fluently by the age of eleven. Even in his final days, Gary's conversations were filled with pride and affection for his grandson.

Known for his quick wit and encyclopedic memory, Gary was truly a master of trivia -ask him anything, and he had the answer. An avid sports fan, he loved cheering on his UNM Lobos, Denver Broncos, and Colorado Rockies, and he found great joy on the golf course, especially when teeing off with his longtime friend Bill Richards.

Gary is survived by his wife Anelle, his son Sean, and his beloved grandson Zeke. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Lou Zimmerman Larsh and father, Truman Wallace Larsh.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank UNM Hospital doctors, nurses, surgical staff, and staff for their unwavering care and compassion. A special thank you to Dr. Andrew Paterson for saving my husband's life and giving me an additional three weeks. Gary's final days were peaceful and comfortable because of their kindness and professionalism.

A private memorial service to celebrate Gary's life will be held. In the words of Thomas Jefferson, whom Gary deeply admired, " There is a ripeness of time for death, regarding others as well as ourselves, when it is reasonable should drop off, and make room for another growth."
