Gary Russell Smith

SMITH-Gary R. Smith passed away at home on May 24, 2010 after a short struggle with cancer. He is survived by his life partner of 32 years, Ron Freeny. Born in Geneva, Illinois on July 26, 1956, he relocated to Albuquerque from Monterey, CA with his partner in 1981. He became a charter member of Metropolitan Community Church of Albuquerque (MCCA) in 1982. He was an artistic and creative individual who enjoyed sharing his many talents with individuals, groups, and organizations in the GLBT community. He was an active member of Prime Timers New Mexico (PTNM) and American Veterans for Equal Rights (AVER) at the time of his passing. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on July 24th at MCCA, 1103 Texas NE (87110). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MCCA. Cremation was handled by Daniels Family Funeral Services.
