George Robert Bateman, 89, of Albuquerque, New Mexico died July 19, 2015. Born October 6, 1925 in Topeka, Kansas to Scott and Florence Bateman. He served in Europe as a Tank Commander during World War II, with the 4th Armored Division, 8th Tank Bn., recipient of the Presidential Citation. He attended the University of Kansas. Was an Operations Officer at Bank of America, retiring in 1989. He was formerly with the Gates Rubber Co., Denver, as an Account Executive and Regional Sales Manager. Was preceded in death by brothers, Charles, John, Thomas, William and sister Audrey Zishka. He is survived by daughters, Debra Smith of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Rebecca Smith of Harrisonville, Missouri; sons, George of Kansas City, Missouri and Scott of Edwardsville, Illinois; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren. A graveside inurnment service with military honors will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico at a later date.
