George R. Gargoura

January 26, 1925 — August 20, 2011

George R. Gargoura, 86, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque passed away August 20, 2011. George was a Veteran of World War II and served aboard the USS H. L. Scott until his discharge in 1946. He joined the Albuquerque Police Department in 1949 and became a Detective with the Police Juvenile Division until 1961 when he was transferred to the Second Judicial District Court to the Juvenile Probation Department and became Chief Juvenile Probation Officer. Due to his success and understanding of children he created many programs for youth guidance while in office. He was contacted by New York City Juvenile Department to train in setting up his youth programs which resulted in assisting many children. He served twenty seven years until his retirement in 1986.
George is survived by his son, George Eden Gargoura and wife Tami, Grandson Chris Basenett of Henderson, NV; his daughters, Pat Gargoura and husband Phil Von Stange of Henderson, NV, Coleen Gargoura of Albuquerque, and Kelle Delaney and husband Edwin, grandson Robert Delaney of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his sisters Thelma Sanchez and Lori Davis both of Albuquerque.
George was a member of the Catholic Church. He was a Life Member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter three. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #1 and New Mexico Sheriffs and Policeman's Association.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 26, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Wyoming Chapel, burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Military honors will be bestowed.
George dearly loved animals, in lieu of flowers please make donations to the Animal Humane Association of New Mexico, 615 Virginia S.E. 87108. George's care has been entrusted to:
