George Hackler

June 24, 1948 — October 25, 2025

George Conley Hackler of Corrales, New Mexico, passed away peacefully at home with his family, leaving behind a legacy of service, accomplishment, and devotion to loved ones.  Born to Lloyd and Norma Jean Conley Hackler, George enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 18 and later earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas. His distinguished career included work as a lobbyist in Washington, D.C., and as publisher of several newspapers, including the New Mexico Business Journal.  George shared a deep love with his wife of 43 years, Ellen Catherine Hackler. 

He was preceded in death by his son, Jason Lloyd Hackler. 

Survivors include his brother, Craig (Norma) Hackler; sister, Kim (Reed) Brown; stepdaughters, Sharon Elizabeth Miner (Drew Setter) and Heather Christine Miner Husom (Geoff Leek); and grandchildren Nathan Clement Setter, Connor George Setter, Ryan Miner Husom, and Fallon Mary Setter.

A service will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho, with burial to follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park.

He will be remembered for his integrity, humor, and enduring love of family.
