George Johnston

October 3, 1954 — April 18, 2010

George Johnston, beloved teacher and journalist, age 55 of Farmington, left this world on April 18, 2010 following a courageous battle with diabetes. George was born on October 3, 1954 to Ralph Clovis Johnston and Emma Louise Smith Johnston in Plainview, Texas. He graduated high school in Floydada, Texas and received his bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech. George worked at the Farmington Daily Times and later taught English and Social Studies at Aztec High School and Kirtland Central High. George loved the outdoors including camping, hiking and taking photos. He and his wife took several trips to Disneyland. George was a great husband, father, teacher, and friend who will be greatly missed. George is survived by his wife Joyce of the family home, son Kirk and fiancée Jaclyn, daughter Jere, brother Lon of Texas, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Ralph. Cremation is being handled by Daniels Family Funeral Services, 804 North Dustin, Farmington, NM. 87401 Condolences to the family may be submitted at www.danielsfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
