George Patrick “Pat” Roche, 88, passed away peacefully in Rio Rancho, NM, on February 21, 2026. He was born on March 9, 1937, in Havre, Montana, to the late Mary Irene and Ernest Martin Roche. Pat enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1954 at the age of 17. He served his country for 20 years, which included service in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive. During his Air Force career, he received numerous awards, including the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.
Pat retired from the Air Force in 1974 and continued serving his community as a Deputy Sheriff in Pottawattamie County, Iowa. He then worked as an Adult Parole Officer for the State of Iowa. Pat also received a Bachelor’s Degree from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. He was an avid HO model railroader and enjoyed camping with his family in their fifth-wheel camper and touring the country.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Janet Leone “Swallow” Roche; daughter Gwen and husband John Peterson; son Gene and wife Anna; granddaughter Laurel; grandson Adam; and three great-granddaughters, Haylie, Peyton, and Jordyn. His family will hold a private memorial service. His remains will be interred at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
