Gilbert Gallegos, 73, of Albuquerque, went home to Heaven on Monday, June 16 2010.
He was born to the late Joe L. and Mary Lou Gallegos, Oct. 9, 1936, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Gilbert was a professional ballroom dance instructor for more than 40 years and was able to travel the country and the world dancing and competing. He was also an avid runner who won numerous medals and trophies over the course of nearly 25 years of running races. He loved life and valued family above all else. He loved to sing and loved the old Hollywood stars. Gilbert is survived by his son Xavier Gallegos with wife Kristine and daughter Ashley Maria of Colorado Springs. He is also survived by his sister Rose Lopez with husband Freddy and his brother John Gallegos with wife Mary Alice, all of Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in Gilbert's name to: ALZHEIMERS ASSN., 9500 Montgomery Suite 209, Albuquerque, NM 87111. Pallbearers are Freddy Lopez, Edward Dimas, Geno Romo, Gabe Romo, Jeffrey Gallegos and Leon Gallegos. Honorary pallbearers are Xavier Gallegos, Rose Gallegos, John Gallegos, Walter LaMondy, Binnie, Vangie, Tony, Chris Corn, Nick Felix and Jim Hewitt.
