Gilbert Quintana, a beloved father, grandfather, and dedicated public servant, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025, at the age of 69. He was born on September 27, 1955, in Silver City, New Mexico, to Chrisotomo and Cleotilde Quintana and was raised in Bayard, New Mexico.
After graduating from Cobre High School in 1973, Gilbert answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army, where he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and served honorably as a Military Policeman. His passion for law enforcement took root during his military service and continued throughout his life.
Gilbert began his civilian law enforcement career as a Grant County Police Officer before rising through the ranks to become a Special Agent in Charge for the U.S. Forest Service. Over the course of his distinguished career, he earned numerous promotions and was the recipient of multiple awards recognizing his exceptional service and unwavering dedication to justice and community.
Known among his colleagues as a man of integrity, Gilbert believed firmly that “no one is above the law.” Yet he carried out his duties with fairness and compassion. He was deeply committed to making a difference and always sought to serve those around him — not only as an officer of the law but as a compassionate member of his community.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Gilbert was a kind-hearted and generous man. He was a true gentleman who never hesitated to help those in need. His warmth, infectious sense of humor, and boundless generosity left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Gilbert’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved sons, Steven and Brian, whom he loved deeply. He was the proud grandfather of five granddaughters — Damica, Alaze, Quirra, and Annonette — grandsons, Steven Jr., Hector and one great grandson, Daniel all of whom he cherished and adored. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Savanah, who held a special place in his heart.
Gilbert Quintana leaves behind a legacy of service, honor, and love. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
