Grace Helene Smith went to be with our Lord and Savior on January 5, 2016. She passed peacefully with her daughter Lisa and family by her side. Grace was born on August 2, 1939 in Gallup, New Mexico. Grace was preceded in death by her mother Mary S. Smith and father Arnold J. Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa M. Esparza; sisters, Mrs. Mary Jean Christensen her husband Ray, Priscilla A. Smith and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Grace, a registered nurse served residents of Little Sisters of the Poor for 13 years. She was a dedicated nurse who loved assisting geriatric patients in the final phases of their lives. Grace had a passion for the nursing profession and loved to pass along her knowledge to the next generation of nurses. Grace also had a fondness for bowling, golfing, Zumba and taking pictures of family events. Lisa would like to thank everyone who shared their time, love and prayers with Grace. The out pouring of love and kindness displayed by family and friends during Grace’s last days provided much comfort and joy.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 10:00 am at Little Sisters of the Poor, 1900 Mark Ave, Gallup, NM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Special Olympics of New Mexico, 6600 Palomas Ave NE Suite 207, Albuquerque, NM 87109 on her behalf.
