Grant Donald Schaber, 58, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on 12 January 2021, surrounded by family. He was born to parents Donald M. Schaber and Shirley A. Delles on Oct 22nd 1962, in Plattsburgh, New York. Grant graduated from Mount Assumption Institute High School class of 1980. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in Sept 1982 as an aircraft maintainer of the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon. He earned an Associate’s Degree in Avionics Systems Technology and Master’s Degree in Business Management. He married Christina Louise Chavez, in Albuquerque, NM on 23 June 2000. Throughout his military career he served at Hill AFB, Utah, Ramstein AFB, Germany, Shaw AFB, South Carolina, Spangdahlem AFB, Germany, Incirlik AB, Turkey, Operation Desert Storm, Kirtland AFB, New Mexico and Kunsan AB, Republic of Korea. He retired from the Air Force on 19 January, 2001 and began a second career as a civil-service employee for the Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center (AFOTEC), Kirtland AFB New Mexico where he would eventually become the Deputy Director of Operations. He worked at AFOTEC until January, 2021 when he received the Outstanding Civilian Career Service Award. Grant is survived by his wife Christina Schaber and will be dearly missed by his children Vincente Limon and wife Heather; Asia Kilgore and husband Austin: Holly Griego and husband Carlos; Joshua Schaber and wife Cassandra Sanchez: and Michael Schaber and wife Shelbi, and 7 grandchildren; Meliano, Jeremiah, Ethen, Micah, Urijah, Logan and Brayden. He is also survived by his brother and three sisters: Sherry Roy, Wade Schaber, Myrna Thomas, Reba Schaber.
He was predeceased by his parents Donald and Shirley Schaber.
There will be a Visitation and Viewing followed by a Rosary on Thursday, 28 January, 2021, from 3:00-6:00 PM at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Sara Chapel, 4310 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, New Mexico 87124. The Funeral Mass will be held Friday, 29 January, 2021, at 10:00 AM, with internment immediately following at Vista Verde Memorial Park, 4310 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Research Institute.
