Harold NaVeaux

d. June 19, 2010

NAVEAUX"Harold W. NaVeaux of Los Alamos passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 19, 2010 in the loving presence of his three daughters at the home of his daughter, Marie in Albuquerque. He was a noble man of absolute integrity, a superbly good man, husband, and father, and will be missed not only by his children and grandchildren, but also by his friends in Los Alamos. Born May 14, 1918 in Monroe, Michigan, Harold's family immigrated to California in 1923 traveling down the path of the original Route 66. His stories of their journey and the early days in "Golden California" entertained his family and friends for years. Harold was preceded in death in April, 2002 by his wife, Florence L. Nelson NaVeaux who was the love of his life. Harold and Florence were married on June 29, 1940 in the Wee Kirk at Forest Lawn, California and lived in the Los Angeles area where Harold worked for Lockheed Aircraft. Harold's one regret was that he was not allowed to serve in WW II as his skills had been deemed too valuable to the war effort. In 1949, Harold was sent to Los Alamos for a six-week project and was invited to stay on as a machinist in the shop at Los Alamos Scientific Labs. In the next 30 years, he rose to Master Tool and Die Maker and later foreman of the shop. He found the challenge of converting scientific musing into functional reality completely absorbing and loved his job. As of January, 2010, Harold was still living independently in the family home in North Community, when he relocated to Albuquerque to be in the care of his children. He enjoyed regular rounds of golf with his buddies until he fell ill last winter. He is survived by his four children: Mrs. Nancy Ferns of Sandia Park, NM; Mrs. Terry Camp of Cedar Crest, NM; Ms. Marie NaVeaux of Albuquerque, NM; and Mr. Clifford NaVeaux of Chromo, Colorado. Also surviving are his three grandchildren: Nathan Bloom of Albuquerque, NM; Julia Camp of Seattle, WA; and Suzanne Camp of Ft. Collins, CO; his sister Kathryn Weber of Polson, Montana; his brother-in-law Darold Nelson of Los Angeles, California; and his sister-in-law Hazel Thompson of Los Angeles, CA. Services will be held at the United Church in Los Alamos at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, June 28, 2010. Interment will follow at Guaje Pines. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation at www.macular.org/howhelp.html. Harold’s care has been entrusted to: Daniels Family Funeral Services 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE Albuquerque, NM 87109 (505) 821-0010
