Funeral Mass and Rosary for Helen C. Diaz, 85, were 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m., today, Sept. 24, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Gallup. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation was 5-7 p.m., Sept. 23 and 10 a.m.-12 p.m., Sept. 24, at Cope Memorial Chapel. Diaz died Sept. 20, 2010, in Gallup. She was born April 21, 1925, in Dawson, NM. Diaz attended school in Dawson. She worked as a waitress most of her life in Gallup. She loved to cook her children’s favorite meal for their birthdays. She enjoyed going to the casino, praying and talking to her sisters on the phone. Survivors include her sons, Benny J. Diaz, Joseph Diaz, both of Gallup; Anthony Diaz of Maricopa, Ariz., Lino Diaz of Rio Rancho; daughter, Regina D. Estorga of Gallup; brothers, Frank Diaz, Louie Diaz, both of Gallup; sisters, Clara Vargas, Julia C. Diaz, of Gallup; 21 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren. Diaz was preceded in death by her parents, Cruz C. Diaz, Luis S. Diaz; sons, Richard Diaz, Johnny Diaz; brothers, Gilbert Diaz, Felix Diaz, Edward Diaz, Benny Diaz; sister, Esperanza Grano, Frances D. Rameriz, Mary Diaz.
