Henry P. Hesuse, 77, of Nageezi, passed from this life on Sunday, May 1, 2011, in Albuquerque. He was born Jan. 6, 1934, in Nageezi, to Guerito and Mabel P. Hesuse. His clans are Mexican and Bitterwater.
Henry served in the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict as well as a member of the peacetime Army. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. He served as a councilman for Nageezi Chapter for 20 years. He was an alcoholism counselor, pastor for Church of the Brethren in Lybrook and founder the Shii Shii Keyah Association. He was on the board of several organizations including NAPI, Diné Power and the Judicial Branch of the Navajo Nation. He received his education at Salt Lake City University, Thoreau Behavioral Science Academy, Flagstaff NAU, Colorado University, Cook Christian Training School, New Mexico State University and Ignacio, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guerito and Mabel P. Hesuse; brother, Andrew Hesuse; and sister, Nancy Hesuse. He is survived by his daughters, Delora Hesuse of Lybrook, Ophelia Castiano of Lybrook and Yolanda Hernandez and husband, Paul, of Salina, Kan.; sisters, Kathy Kanaswood of Page, Ariz., Ernistine Begay of Bloomfield, Lorraine Hesuse of Santa Fe, and Marlene Murphy of Huerfano; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 6, at the Brethren In Christ Mission in Otis. Randy Emmelhainz will officiate. Interment will follow at the Brethren In Christ Community Cemetery in Otis. A reception will follow the services at the Nageezi Multi-Use Center.
Pallbearers are Emmanuel Hernandez, Guerito Hesuse, Melvin Hesuse, Leonard Kafael Jr. Leroy Rafael and Roderick Curley. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Sandias, 105 Hospital Loop N.E., Albuquerque NM 87109.
