Hsun Lui, 93 years old, passed away Monday January 16th, 2023, peacefully in Albuquerque, NM. He was born in Jiangxi, China, to parents Hsan Lui and Shan-Nan Hsia. He had an older brother and sister and two younger brothers. He is preceded in death by his wife Wen Lo. He is survived by his daughter, Judy Lui, children Catherine, and his son, Jimmy, children Vienna and Ellie.
Hsun fought in the Chinese Civil War on the side of the Kuomintang against the Communists and achieved the rank of Commander in the Republic of China Navy. He emigrated to the United States and earned a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee. He then worked his way up from an electrical engineer to a nuclear systems engineer until he retired from last position at Virginia Power.
On October 31, 1965, he married Wen Lo and subsequently had two children, Judy and Jimmy. He is survived by his two children and three grandchildren Catherine, Vienna and Ellie.
Hsun competed in non-sanctioned amateur boxing bouts while in the Navy which led to a lifetime love of the sport of boxing. His favorite boxer was Muhammed Ali. He loved to read about history, was an avid player of Go and his love of Chinese opera led to him teaching himself how to play the Huqin.
On January 20th, 2023, we held a private family service here in New Mexico to honor him. May his memory be ever eternal.
