Hubert 'Les' Lesperance, 86, of Farmington, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2010. He was born Dec. 24, 1923, in Wellington, Kansas, to John and Ruth Lesperance.
Following his graduation from Wellington High School in 1942, he entered the Army and served with the South Pacific Base Command in New Caledonia, the Philippines and Japan.
He and Vicki Newkirk were married in 1946, and he graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1949.
Les worked for El Paso Natural Gas Company for 31 years.
After his retirement, he volunteered his time by serving on advisory boards of the Farmington Public Library, Salvation Army and Meals On Wheels. He also volunteered at the Nature Center. Les was active in the First Presbyterian Church and served as a Deacon and Elder.
He was a member of the Four Corners Bird Club and the Animas Valley Stamp Club. His hobbies were fly fishing, bird watching, photography, stamp collecting and traveling.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vicki, two daughters, Janet Milam and her husband David, of Farmington, and Laurie Russell of Hobbs; four grandchildren, Jason Russell and wife, Connie, Josh Russell and wife, Melanie, Stacie Milam, and Chris Milam, and one great-granddaughter, Arya Russell. Les is also survived by his twin brother, John Lesperance and wife, Shirley; and two sisters, Betty Ouimett abd husband, Phil, and Pat Pritchard.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund, or to the charity of your choice.
