BLOOMFIELD
Hulan E. Crawford
Dec. 20, 1930 " July 4, 2010 Hulan E. Crawford, 79, of Bloomfield, died unexpectedly from a heart attack Sunday morning, July 4, 2010. Hulan was born Dec. 20, 1930, to Hazel and Jim Crawford. He was the delight of both sides of the families.
His smile and gentle ways endeared him to everyone who met him. He was much like Will Rodgers in wit, humor, wisdom and warmth. He never met a man he didn’t like. His generosity of spirit was incredible to behold. He was selfless in every endeavor. This is a man the world will be lesser for because of his absence.
Hulan graduated from Farmington High School, served two years in the Army, farmed, ranched, owned motels in Taos and in Kingman, Ariz, worked in copper mine in Tucson, Ariz., owned a supermarket in Cottonwood, Ariz., owned a deli and a curio shop in Missouri and, for the last decade, worked at the Farmington Museum. His work at the museum gave him a second family. He loved his coworkers and enjoyed meeting the visitors who frequented the museum. He felt very much like the local historian. In his spare time, he cherished his horses in training, racing, and watching them graze in his pastures. He was also a very good poet and had an amazing gift of creating pictures with his words.
Hulan married Dixie Crawford in 1953. They had eight children, Christine Crawford, Mark (Nancy) Crawford, Danny Crawford, Matt Crawford, Patrick Crawford, Jamie Crawford, Brenda Crawford, and Susanna Crawford. They had six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Hulan was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Crawford; his wife Dixie Crawford and his daughter, Brenda.
He is survived by his remaining children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, James M. (Francis) Crawford; sister, Audrie C. (Gene) Bennett, and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
Services are pending. Hulan has been entrusted to the care of Daniels Family Funeral Services, 804 N. Dustin Ave. in Farmington, (505) 326-3671.
