Ignacio Garcia

July 31, 1943 — August 18, 2022

Ignacio Garcia, 79, was born July 31, 1943 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and died August 18, 2022, in the city of his birth. Also known to family and friends as Nacho and Nash, and The Man Who Could Fix Anything, he was preceded in death by father Brijido Garcia, mother Carmen Fernandez, sisters Antonia Phillips (Charles) and Mary Baca (George), and son Paul Garcia.

After receiving his bachelor’s degree to be a teacher, which he earned working nights four years as a Santa Fe Railroad apprentice, he went from machinist at General Electric’s Aircraft Engine Group to manager with GE; then traveled the country and the world including Ohio, Texas, France, Mexico and places between, finally returning to stay in his beloved New Mexico.

He taught his sons how to work on cars and, curiously, introduced them to Spanish swear words at the same time.

Beloved husband, son, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather, he is survived by his wife of six decades Donna Lewis, son Michael Garcia (Lisa), granddaughters Kristine Radcliff and Kathryn Mirabal (Laurence), grandson Irvin Garcia, great granddaughters Maddie and Emory, brother John Garcia (Kathy), and cousins, nieces, and nephews too many to count.

One of the planet’s most generous souls, he was always the source of recreation and fun—especially camping, boating, fishing, and cooking out. Through life’s trials and suffering a 7-year battle with cancer, he never lost his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We will miss him terribly.
