James “Jimmy” Chavez, age 72, entered his restful, heavenly destination on July 4th, 2025 in Socorro New Mexico.
Jimmy was born June 7th, 1953 in Socorro New Mexico . He graduated Socorro High in 1971 and attended New Mexico Highlands University. He then attended TVI where he obtained a Journeyman Electrician License.He later became a Master Electrician in 2003. Jimmy dedicated his career to New Mexico Tech for 34 years.
Jimmy was known for his quick wit, infectious humor, and his unique loving personality. He never met a stranger. His passion for keeping the community alive began when he organized a little league in early 1990s , he taught basic electrical classes at Socorro High School, and continued to mentor those who worked with him. His legacy will forever continue through those he mentored and encouraged.Jimmy has made an impactful impression on anyone he gave a moment too. His love for his family was stronger than any value he sustained. Jimmy dedicated most of his life providing for his family as a devoted Son,Father, Brother, Uncle and Popi.
Jimmy spent most of his time with his three grandchildren Cullen Baxter, Harper Baxter and Brixton Holguin. Jimmy will be honored through his memories and teachings. At most celebrations you could find Jimmy listening to a great song ,making his famous Carne Adovada, and planning his next camping trip. As a father, he possessed an innate ability to make his children feel cherished, valued, and understood. He celebrated our triumphs, wiped away our tears during moments of defeat, and encouraged us to pursue our dreams fearlessly.
He is survived by his three children, Erika Baxter, James Chavez, and Clarisse Chavez, Grandchildren Cullen Baxter, 15, Harper Baxter 9, Brixton Holguin, 5, His brother Marion B Chavez; spouse Barbara Romero, niece Sarah Chavez Legros, nephew Jacob Chavez. Nephew Richard Chavez and Sister in Law Ginger Chavez. Along with many other family members.His services will be held July 16, 2025 at 9:30 at San Miguel Church with mass and reception to follow.
