James Noel Edgeington

James (Jim) Edgeington, 89, went to join our Lord on Tuesday, November 15, 2022. He is survived by his wife, Brenda, his brother Perry Edgeington (wife Jeannie), and five sons and one daughter; James Edgeington (wife Terry), Greg Edgeington, Mark Edgeington, David Shomaker (wife Huiqing), Jack Shomaker, and Bonnie Edgeington Martin, as well as 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. His wife Sally preceded him in death. Jim came from humble beginnings, born in Casper, Wyoming where he was raised by his loving grandparents, Emma and Perry Edgeington (PL). Jim’s work ethic was formed early, working as a youth in his grandfather’s store and later as a projectionist in the movie theater. He was one of the youngest operators to receive a license at a time when an apprenticeship was required to operate the film projectors. Jim put himself through college working as a jeweler, an experience that combined with his master’s degree from the University of Wyoming in Mechanical Engineering, would lead him to design a timer for the atomic bomb during his time at Sandia National Laboratory. He worked with a team under General Omar Bradley at Bulova Watch to develop critical timing instruments. Ever the creative entrepreneur, Jim had a passion for starting new businesses. Among the many, were Old Town Candle Shop, Old Town Gourmet Shop, Coronado Candle Shop, House of Trophies and more. He was president of Artko Studios, the poster printer for Warner Bros Studios, and was involved in the negotiation for the rights to use the Roadrunner and Coyote for the first “Albuquerque International Balloon Race” in 1972. Most recently, along with his son Greg, Jim was a driving force behind the success of Zia Graphics and three New Mexico Look stores. Jim worked tirelessly, enjoying building a company of creative people who care about craftsmanship. He enjoyed the many moving parts of running a business and dearly valued his family, his team at Zia, and the many business partners that worked with him for over 50 years.
