James David Locklar

James David Locklar was born July 1, 1951 at home on the farm where he was raised.  He passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018 from complications from diabetes.  His parents were James Richard (“J.R”) Locklar, Jr. and Ruby Locklar Strozzi.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Janie Locklar Cox, his brother-in-law Barry, and his niece Brenda Cox Whiten.  He is survived by his sister Etna Locklar Thompson, his brother-in-law Jack Cox, his stepbrother Butch (Patsy) Scott, his stepsister Betty Settlemeyer, his nieces Donna Napier and Shelley (Phil) Kruis, his nephews Evan (Myra) and Lyle (Anya) Thompson, nephew-in-law Mark Whiten, step niece Kris (John) Stanzione, step nephews Matthew (Cindy) May, and David and William “Bill” (Julia) Scott, nine grand nieces and nephews, five step grand nieces and nephews, four great-grand nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. David was a member of First Baptist Church of Socorro. He graduated from Socorro High School where he was a member of the Marching Band, Concert Band, and Future Farmers of America.   He briefly served as a member of the United States Army.  He worked various occupations in his lifetime including driving a fire truck and ambulance for Socorro.  He was a 2008 candidate for Socorro City Council Ward 1. David loved the cowboy way of life.  One of his favorite memories was traveling and working the rodeo circuit.  It was there he made some of his most valued friendships. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of  Socorro, 203 Spring St., Socorro, NM. The family will receive friends starting at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Socorro Cemetery. After the interment a luncheon will be held at the First Baptist Church.
