James Laurence Matthews

Obituary

Jim was born in Louisiana on December 6, 1936. He was raised in Kansas and Oklahoma, where his father worked in the oil business. He graduated from high school in Oklahoma and earned a bachelor's degree in education at Northeast State University and a Master of Arts degree in speech pathology at the University of Denver.

His working years were spent at Lovelace Clinic in Albuquerque, NM, and in Fresno, CA, for the Fresno County public schools as a speech pathologist.

Many wonderful years were spent with his life partner, Michael Temer, and his supportive family members and friends. He was active in little theater, church choir, and travel, and he enjoyed dining out.

He is survived by his brother, Robert D. Matthews, a nephew, and some wonderful "in-laws."

Ashes will be placed in the columbarium at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Rio Rancho, NM, where he was a longtime member. Remembrances may be made to St. Francis Episcopal Church.
