Javier Rivas Contreras

Javier “Chapo” Rivas Contreras passed away on December 20, 2021 in Rio Rancho, NM at the age of 57.

Javier is survived by his wife, Delia Rivas; children, Jose Rivas, Nayeli Rivas, and Yesenia Rivas; son-in-law, Jesus A. Saenz; grandchildren, I’Lani Saenz Rivas and Elijah Saenz Rivas; his beloved pets, Charro, Romeo, Kash, Balthasar, and Graffiti. He is preceded in death by his father, Jose Uvaldo Rivas.

Javier was born on April 5, 1964 in San Jose DeGracia, Durango, Mexico to Jose Uvaldo Rivas and Ofelia Contreras. He married the love of his life, Delia Herrera on May 24, 1991 in Albuquerque, NM. The couple was married for 30 beautiful years. Javier set about teaching his children to take care and love one another. His children remember him as a kind, and gentle father who encouraged them to pursue their dreams.

Javier was a carpenter for over 40 years. He was in the Union of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. He loved to go horseback riding and taking care of his animals. He enjoyed working on his trucks, welding, and grilling outside.

A Visitation will take place from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm on Saturday, January 8, 2021 at Daniels – Sara Rd Chapel, 4310 Sara Rd. Chapel Rio Rancho, NM 87124. A Rosary will be recited at 12:00 pm followed by a Prayer Service at Daniels – Sara Rd Chapel, 4310 Sara Rd. Chapel Rio Rancho, NM 87124.
