Jeffrey Michael Brown, known professionally in radio and media as Jeff Kelly, died unexpectedly in Glendale, California, on 08/14/2021 at the age of 50.
Jeff is survived by his mother Linda Carol (née Davis) Brown, his father Ernest “Joe” Brown, his fiancée Melissa Louise Veazey, his son Jordan Christopher Brown, his daughters Christina Nicole Brown and Darian Rose Brown, his brother Jason Scott Brown, his sister-in-law Tanya Lee Brown, his niece Averie Leigh Brown, his nephew Aiden Kelly Brown, his aunt Virginia Lee “Gency” Brown, his aunt Evelyn June Price, and many other relatives and close friends. Jeff also leaves behind his faithful friend and family dog, Murray. Jeff is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Stanley J. Davis and Dorothy Francis (née Mills) Davis and his paternal grandparents John William Brown and Wanda Ernestine (née Kelly) Brown.
Jeffrey was born 11/25/1970 in Midwest City, Oklahoma. He attended Desert High School on Edwards Air Force Base, California, graduating in 1989. After attending Antelope Valley College in Lancaster, California, he enlisted for one tour in the U.S Air Force, working in television systems. He later enrolled at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado studying journalism.
Jeff was passionate about his music and soccer. Jeff started his career in radio at KHJ and KTPI radio in Lancaster, California. He later moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he created KOLZ (KOLT Radio), a country station that dominated the airwaves for many years. Clear Channel (iHeart Radio) bought that station, and Jeff moved with them to Colorado and later Albuquerque. In those years, he garnered many awards for his on-air and commercial production skills. In January 2021, the large international company, Benztown Media, acquired Jeff, giving him his dream job as West Coast Director of Commercial Production.
Jeff was considered a walking encyclopedia on the history of many music genres and the music business surrounding them. He often entertained people with his ability to know the most obscure information about a song or singer. He also enjoyed his soccer or "footie" and was an active member of the Manchester United soccer team’s fan club. Jeff was a member of the “Northern Exposure” TV show fan club. A few years ago, he volunteered his time to create a radio program for the club’s online KBHR Radio station that honored the TV show and its DJ, Chris Stevens.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on September 25th at 11:00 am in the chapel at Daniel’s Mortuary, 2400 Southern Blvd, Rio Rancho, NM.
