Obituary

Jerry B. Shreve, age 79, passed away on June 20, 2026, in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Born on May 11, 1947, in Del Norte, Colorado, to Ernest and Alma Shreve, Jerry lived a life marked by service, dedication, and deep love for his family and community.

Jerry graduated from East High School in 1966 and joined the United States Air Force in 1967. Over the course of 20 years of honorable service, he brought commitment and pride to every role he held, including jet engine technician, air traffic controller, wing weapons system controller, and training management technician.

Following his retirement from the Air Force, Jerry continued serving others through a second career with the United States Postal Service, where he worked faithfully until his retirement in 2016.

In 1982, Jerry discovered ballooning, a passion that brought him joy, friendship, and countless cherished memories. He began as a crew member, later served as a launch director for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, and eventually returned to crewing. He also enjoyed camping and fishing trips and treasured the fellowship he found through the Elks Lodge, AAAA Ballooning, and Top Gun Ballooning.

Jerry was reunited in peace with loved ones who preceded him in death: his father, Ernest Shreve; his mother, Alma Shreve; his beloved wife, Marilyn Shreve; his daughter, Kristie Shreve; his grandson, Lucas Jameson Tilley; and his bonus daughter, Shelly Cannaday.

Jerry’s memory will be lovingly carried forward by his daughter, Stacy Fults; his grandchildren, Austin W. Fults and spouse Alexis Woyak, Shelby L. Fults and spouse Angie Silvas, and Alison J. Fults; his great-grandson, Daniel W. Woyak; and many adopted children and grandchildren whose lives he touched.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Jerry on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Rio Rancho Elks Lodge, located at 1530 Barbara Loop SE.
